Subsequently, issues related to the links between cryptography and law, the legal problems of open source, the development of legal informatics were analyzed from a practical point of view. The center combines various skills (and researchers): legal informatics, philosophy of law, sociology of law, canon law, criminal law, criminal procedure law, political philosophy, general legal theory, bioethics. This book explains the strategies, techniques, legal issues, and relationships between digital resistance activities, information warfare actions, liberation technology, and human rights. It explores the concept of authority in the digital age, focusing in particular on the actions of so-called digital dissidents. Starting from the difference between hacking and cybercrime, the book explains the concepts of hacktivism, information warfare between states, a new form of politics (such as open data movements, radical transparency, crowdsourcing and “Twitter revolutions”) and the hacking of political systems and state technologies. The book focuses on the protection of human rights in countries with oppressive regimes. “Human rights seem to be in the news all the time. This book combines this topic with digital technology and reflections on the Arab Spring (resistance and some form of liberation). The references are very up-to-date. Over the past decade, research has also focused on privacy, online hate, digital investigations, legal technology, lawyer programming, and data governance.

The Centre “Law of the Information Society” (ISLC) of the Department “Cesare Beccaria” of the University of Milan is a multidisciplinary research center created in 2017 within the Faculty of Law “Cesare Beccaria” dedicated to the study of the so-called “Law of Digital Transformation” and the legal, technological, political and social aspects of the information society. His research focuses on computer ethics, computer crime, digital investigations, the use of social media in politics, digital death, hate speech, surveillance and leakage, digital dissent and human rights, cyber law, computer justice, hacking, legal technology and digital transformation law. His recent books in Italian deal with the use of social networks in politics (“Tecnologie per il potere”, Raffaello Cortina, 2019), digital death (“Il Libro Digitale dei Morti”, UTET, 2017), hate speech (“L`odio online”, Raffaello Cortina, 2016), surveillance and leaks (“Internet, controllo e libertà”, Raffaello Cortina, 2015), legal informatics (“L`avvocato hacker”, Giuffrè, 2013) and piracy (“Hacker”, Marsilio). 5) the organization of events that bring together all the legal and technical skills of the University of Milan to advance the most demanding and interesting lines of research.
